Macau can be amazing in the sense that on Taipa island, the rhythm is so slow, so gradual; while on the peninsular, it's a different story altogether. Vegas-style casino mega hotels are all around the place. However, with more than 20 resorts blueprinted on Taipa, it's gonna outshine its counterpart in less than 10years for sure. And the Venetian! So overrated. Will post about Venetian and casinos later. It's food and local tourists spots today! :)
Our first stop was the food street Rua Do Cunha, more commonly known as 官也街 to the locals. Portuguese settled in Macau since 16th century, all the road signs in over there are bilingual - Chinese and Portuguese rather than English. But frankly, no cab drivers will understand you if you were to tell them your destination in its Portuguese name. The irony -_-
Even ostrich?
The height of it!
Do I look as if I'm standing on thin air? hehe
The famous Pinocchio's where we planned to have dinner
The place we ended up having dinner cos the cab diver told us it's more famous -_-
African Chicken. The soul and essence of a Portuguese meal :)
Ah... the St. Paul's ruins. No point telling you the history behind it lah you can just google. I don't find anything so fascinating bout it though. It's weird! How come only the entrance wall is so finely preserved. Seriously, there's nothing behind it, none of the remainings of any sort.
Besides casinos, churches stands number 2. Plenty of them... And most of the buildings over there still carry heavy Portuguese flavors, something reassembling Melacca... vestiges of a colonial past. In one of the museums, mum even spoke to the guard in Malay because she thought she was in Melacca. -_-
It must be really beautiful here at night. Just look at the lights!
Senado Square is just so full of buzz..
天乐
%$#%@#?!!
On hunt for the best Portuguese egg tarts in town! Lord Stow's is quite a distance from where we stayed so we reckoned we should just stick to Margaret's, which is not bad either! Fillings of the tarts literally melted in my mouth the moment I ate it. Unlike those we have in Malaysia, these are really filling. 2 tarts and there goes your lunch :)
Mum is so full she thinks she can finish up the tarts just by staring at it
People standing around eating cos there's just not enough seats all the time
Christmas Evian! :D
Ok look what I found. Durian in Macau during winter. Awesomeness...
We were lucky because 20th of December turned out to be the SAR establishment day, the day in which China assumed formal sovereignty over Macau. So there were fireworks! And fireworks makes me happy :D Also, the following day was winter solstice. People burning offerings everywhere... the traditional way.
Overlooking Friendship Bridge. Splendid night scene.
Macau without casinos? Of course not. Casinos is the place over there and it deserves its very own post. Till then! :D
p/s: Sigh class starting soon. So depressing.
